These days backache has become a common problem. Not only old and elderly but mid aged and youth also are troubled by backache. Never ignore back ache. Usually people believe that problem or tension in the nerves of spine or back is the reason of backache. But the real problem of backache is obstruction in the veins in the legs. These conditions are known as Leric syndrome. If a person is suffering from back ache and is also a diabetic then there are chances of sciatica or spondylitis. The problem of backache occurs. Backache happens due to malfunction of muscle, nerves and disc. On the onset of backache the patient can be bed ridden for months or years but one should not be befriended with bed but should be active. Backache occurs due to obstruction in blood flow and nerves. Back ache occurs due to sudden tension in the muscles or due to disc prolapse in the ligaments.

Remedies to be adopted for the treatment of Backache

  1. Lie in on a hard surface.
  2. In case of backache bent table should be used for writing.
  3. Always avoid smoking, because smoking obstructs the flow of blood inside the disc cells.
  4. While sitting on always keep the back straight and stick to the back of the chair. The chair should have arms and the back rest should give proper support to spine.
  5. Foamed and cushioned chairs induce pain in the back avoid such chairs.
  6. While walking, sitting or sleeping chest should be projected and stomach should be tucked inside that is spine should be straight.
  7. Never read while lying down. Due to this wrong posture of reading back ache complains often arises.
  8. To lift any object do down upon bending the knees and pick up the object with both hands. Also make sure that the object is not too far from the body as the spine has to bear extra load. Which harms the spine.
  9. Do not lie on your stomach and do not take thick pillow.
  10. When lifting a heavy object bear the load proportionately on the entire body.
  11. Keep away from obesity.
  12. Do not wear high heeled sandals, shoes and sleepers.
  13. Do not sit in the same posture for more than an hour. In between take short walks to ease off tension and fatigue from muscle.
  14. A void wearing jeans and tight dress.
  15. While mopping the floor, cleaning utensil or washing clothes do not bend your spine in the wrong way. Try to keep it straight.
  16. In case of backache hot water bag or ice should be compressed consecutively for 5 minutes hot compression and thereafter for 5 minutes cold compression.
  17. Mental tension causes backache. Try to avoid any stress. While suffering backache hot water shower or wet towel should be rubbed while bathing for 3-4 days.

Ayurvedic treatment of Backache

Herbal treatment of Backache

  1. Massage with warm flaxseed oil in which dry ginger powdered has been added. This relieves back ache.
  2. 2.5 gram of ashwagandha powder taken with cows ghee or brown sugar relieves back ache.
  3. Mix and grind bark, pod and latex of acacia in equal quantity. Taking 1 teaspoon full thrice daily will relieves back ache.
  4. Back ache is eliminated by applying banyan tree milk.
  5. Take wheat flour, ghee, snow gourd sufficient enough to be made into dough. Make chapattis and grind, mix with ghee and brown sugar and make balls. On eating this back ache is eliminated.
  6. Take 2-4 gm powder of Roasted cassia tora seeds mixed with jaggery and small quantity of ghee and make balls. Eating this relieves back ache.

Backache treatment with Yoga

To get permanent relief from back ache so that it should not occur in future Yoga is essential. Yogasan and exercise makes the spine strong. Nerves and arteries become strong and flexible. Instead of taking rest when fatigued one should exercise and do Yog Asana.

The asanas which help backache patients are uttanpada asana, pawanmukta asana, shashaka asana, vakra asana, ardha matsyendra asana, purna matsyendra asana, setubandh asana, markataasana, katiuttanpada asana, dhanura asana, shalbha asana and surya namaskar.  In back ache anulome viloma  also should be done. By doing this seventy two crore, seventy two crore ten thousand and two hundred nadis  (nerves) are purified. When all the nadis  are purified the body lighten up, becomes healthy and strong.

Subtle Yoga Exercises to relieve Backache

Put the fingers of both the hands by crossing over each other on both feet. Rotate from right to left in such a manner that you bend down from the waist hands touching toes. Now keep palm on thighs and bend your waist backward. Keep legs stable. Similarly repeat in the reverse direction.

Spread your legs and place the slightly apart. Keep both hands parallel to shoulders. Now hold the left big toe with your right hand. Swing left hand backward and straight up and make a position resembling a mountain, look backward by moving your neck to left. Repeat same way in the reverse direction. By doing these two exercises back ache is relieved. And stomach becomes healthy and fat is removed from waist. Persons who have severe back ache should not do this exercise. Apart from these subtle remedies hot or cold compress and heat therapy works wonders. If there is any headache or giddiness then the compress should immediately be opened.

Precautions and Not to do

  1. Do not eat oily or spicy food.
  2. Never drink tea or coffee.
  3. Avoid fast food. Such food increase the level of cholesterol and uric acid in the body, which give rise to many problems in the body.

I have suffered from the back pain a lot and have taken lots of treatments for it. I have observed when our back
if fine we dont care for it and when it goes soar we start panicking about it which is not fair.
I have studied
that at least 90% of the people in world get this problem and its the second most common problem in world after
flu. Most of the time back pain goes away if you make some changes in your lifestyle. Here are some points that I
would like all of you to look at:

1. Maintain correct posture while sitting and standing. This is very
important.
2. Dont overstretch your back. If you feel pain its a sing that your back is hurt and it requires
rest. So rest for some time.
3. Sleep on your back, best is to sleep on a wooden bed.
4. For some time avoid
lifting weights or doing heavy physical activities, speacially which cause you pain.. and you are the
best judge of that. Slowly as you feel better you can start with small weights.
5. If pain is unbearable take
muscle relaxants as prescribed by your Dr.
6. Do back excercices for 30-45 mins, two times a day. Again the key is
not to do excercise which cause pain to your back. Do yoga.
7. Eat healthy and keep yourself busy. Try to take
away your mind from that back pain.

Keep all these points in mind and I am sure your back pain will be relieved.

Great comment and very useful for people suffering from low back ache. In addition to these informative
lines I will add that sarpasana is very good for back ache. People having bach ache should avoid lifting heavy weight
and forward bending. Local application of Mentho Plus

I am retired. Age 64. wt 68.5 kg. Suffering from blockage of nostrils for the past more than a year. Dependent on allopathic nasal drops which I am taking every four to five hours.
