Introduction: Planted trees of agast are found everywhere. It comfortably grows in the areas where there is plenty of water and the atmosphere is humid centric. In the rainy season its seed germinates everywhere. Rajnighantu has discovered four of its types, white, yellow, blue and red. But mostly it has white colored flowers. Its soft leaves, flowers and fruits are eaten after cooking it as vegetable.

 

Outer composition: The fast growing but short lived trees of Agast rise up to 20 feet. Leaves grow on the long stick jointly in around 25-30 pairs. The leaves are 1-1.5 inches long, oval shaped, flowers are white colored, boat shaped, fruit (shimbi) is 1 foot long, somewhat circular (in shape), flattened and in every cod there are around 15-20 light colored seeds. It grows flowers in winter season and fruits.

Chemical Composition: Its skin has panin which is good for red blood cells. Its leave has protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, Vitamin A, B, C, and its fruit have Vitamin B, C and protein. Its seed contains 70% protein and particular type of oil.

Attributes: The tree of agast removes pitta, cough and fever. It also relives bitter, upset, vaata.

Flower: It is effective in ejaculation, bitter, tridosh pijri, chaturthik fever, night blindness, vat-blood, and penas disease, cough and cold.

Leaves: Acidic (Katu), Tikta (bitter, somewhat (temperate), sweet in taste, and effective in worm, cough, cold, blood purification, and pratishyay.

Shimbi: Its cod is sweet in taste, bitter, small, appetite and memory booster, and controls three deformities of diarrhea, TB, poison and removes worm, and also effective in treating pitta. Its skin is nourishing, digestive and tonic in nature.

MEDICINAL APPLICATIONS

Epilepsy:

Take powder of Agastya leaves and black pepper powder in equal amount and mix it in cow urine. It is effective if the patient is let to smell the mixture.

If the child is young then the juice extracted from two leaves and adding half quantity of black pepper to it and then putting a cotton soaked in it on the nose of the child stops the fits.

Headaches: Pouring 2-3 drops of the juice of its fruits or leaves in the nostril on the other side of the paining side relives the pain. It also cures the nasal pains.

Cold: In severe pratishya or cold when the head feels heaviness and pains then the pouring 2-4 drops of juice of agastya leaves and sipping 10-20 grams of the juice from its roots with honey 3-4 times a day cures the disease.

Eyes disease:

  • pouring 2-2 drops in eyes cures the foggy vision.
  • Eating the vegetable made from its leaves or fruits twice a day cures the night blindness.
  • Take 250 grams of its leaves mix its powder in 1 kg of purified butter (from cow). Taking 5-10 grams of this mixture in the morning-evening is immensely beneficial.
  • Pouring the liquid from its flower into eyes cures fogginess. 2-3 grams of liquid (honey) extracts after plucking the flowers
  • Roasting its leaves in purified butter and eating that butter cures poor vision and also removes fogginess.

Memory loss: Adding dried ginger, pepar and jaggerine in equal quantity to its juice and administering 1-2 drops of this mixture helps.

In dried cough: Gargling with its juice helps in dried cough, sour tongue, distorted voice and bleeding while coughing.

Dysentery: Adding 20 grams of clove and stone salt to 20 grams of its extract from skin and taking it in the morning-evening cures even the chronic dysentery.

Constipation: Boil 20 grams of its leaves in 400 grams of water and boil till it reduces to 100 grams. Drinking 10 grams of it relieves in constipation.

Leucorrhea: Grind the fresh skin of agastya tree and soak a cloth in its juice. Put this cloth in folded shape (like the one used for flames) in the entrance of vagina. It cures leucorrhea and removes irritation.

Arthritis: Take equal quantity of Dhatura root and agastya root and grind it. Applying its paste on the painful region cures the problem. The swelling vanishes. In lesser pains apply the grinded paste from the roots of red agastya.

Vatarakt: Put the dried fruits of in 1kg of buffalow milk. Make its curd by adding 100 grams of curd in it. Once it transforms in curd then take its butter. Massaging with this butter on the scabies helps.

To boost memory: Taking 3-10 grams of seed powder of agastya with 250 grams of milk daily in the morning and evening for some time sharpens the memory.

Fever:

  • Smelling the juice of its fruit or leaves help in ‘chaturthik fever and blocked nose (cold).
  • Adding half spoon honey in 2-3 spoons of juice extracted from agastya and drinking it in the morning-evening instantly stops the recurrence of ‘chaaturthik fever’. It should be administered for 15 days.
  • If there is fever along with the swelling and pain in the lungs then taking the skin of its roots or leaves powder in 10-20 grams quantity alongwith honey 23 times a day is extremely beneficial.
  • The skin of its root powdered and taken with 10 gram of betel leaf juice thrice a day also helps in dried cough and troubled breathing.
  • In certain fevers of masurika where small boils erupt, its juice extracted from root or skin should be administered in 20-30 grams.

Fits: Applying only 4 drops of leaves juice cures Child problems: Administering 5-10 grams of its leaves juice to child cures child problems after 2-4 loose motion.

Internal boils: If agastya leaves are heated through putpak method then it is effective on internal boils as binding it above the boils help in the internal passage of the boils.

Bleeding: Eating the cooked preparation of its leaves is effective.
