Hello doctor, one of my friend is consuming Mukta vati since 9 months and since 3 months he is facing nasal congestion. Whether this is due to Mukta vati or any other causes, please suggest some medications for preventing the nasal congestion.

Ayurvedic Medicine

Hello,

Mukta vati has no such ingredients which can tend to cause upper respiratory congestions.Although as mentioned herbs like centellum asiatica are cold in potency, it does not have any correlation with the common cold manifestation or nasal congestion mentioned here.

In this case other factors responsible for nasal congestion shall be observed and ruled out. For this purpose a detailed history of patient is important as to find out the major cause.

Mukta vati as you know is a proprietery ayurvedic medicine which is primarily maeant for treating patients with hypertension. I would never recommend any patient to continue with this medication for a longer period of time. One should always try to taper the dosage as to effectively bring blood pressure in control.

In certain cases the body would easily react with contents present in a medicine after a prolonged time. In such cases also allergic signs such as nasal congestion shall be shown.

Mukta vati has some ingredients like mukta pisti, brahmi, jatamamsi, sanka puspi, gojihva which are cold in potency. But the effect of causing cold varies in each person. As it has been taken for nine months and the cold is noticed for three months. Please find out if there are any othere possible causes for cold. Try to take Talisa patradi churnam - 1tsp 3 or 4 times daily with honey. Use warm food and warm water. Include spices like pepper, ginger, garlic, coriander seeds, tulsi in food. Avoid cold atmosphere like windy breeze. Observe for a week while taking this medicine. If it becomes better while taking it and then notice the changes after stopping it. If you get cold again , please consult a doctor to try other alternatives which reduce blood pressure like sarpagandha vati, cardimap according to the symptoms.

From the above mentioned medicines there are few drugs that do have cold potency such as Shankhapushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), Gaajwaan (Onosma bracteatum), Brahmi (Centella asiatica), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), due to which, you may be suffering from nasal congestion or it may be common those who are sensitive to cold.Hence, in order to reduce that nasal congestion, you need to consume the following medicine for safer side: Divya Sanjeevani Vati twice daily.
